HistoryJabil was founded in 1966 by William E. Morean and James Golden in Detroit, Michigan. The company began by assembling circuit boards for Control Data. The Jabil name comes from the combination of the founder's first names (James and Bill). The company's major break came in 1979 when Jabil won a large contract with General Motors. Since then Jabil's top customers include Cisco Systems (16% of sales), Philips Electronics (15%), Hewlett-Packard (11%), and Johnson Controls. Jabil's facilities are located in U.S., Brazil, China, U.K., India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Hungary, Poland and Singapore. Jabil's non-North American operations accounted for 79% of net revenue in fiscal 2003. Chairman William Morean and his family own nearly 30% of Jabil. |
