David Hamilton Koch (1940-) was the Libertarian Party's Vice-Presidential candidate in the 1980 U.S. presidential election, sharing the party ticket with Ed Clark. Koch (pronounced 'coke') is one of the owners and leaders of the nation's largest privately owned company, Koch Industries, Inc., for which he serves as executive vice president. He contributed $1.6 million to the Libertarian campaign. The Clark-Koch ticket received just under one million popular votes and remains the most successful Libertarian presidential campaign to date.

 

David Koch is one of four sons of oil industry innovator Fred C. Koch, and he attended Deerfield Academy and then the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). David received both bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering in 1962 and 1963 respectively.

David Koch currently serves on the board of directors of the Cato Institute and the Reason Foundation. His brother Charles Koch has also been active in organizing and funding foundations and think-tanks such as the Cato Institute.
