Peter M. Nicholas cofounded medical device firm Boston Scientific with partner John Abele. He earned a B.A. from Duke University in 1964 and an M.B.A. from The University of Pennylvania's Wharton School. In 2005 he was ranked #78 byForbes in the magazines The 400 Richest Americans. Born to Greek-American parents, he met scientist John Abele at kids' soccer game 1979.

In 1996 the Nicholas family gave $20 million to Duke Universityfor the School of the Environment. In 2000 Nicholas was a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.[1]. In 2006 Nicholas' company bought his former employer Eli Lilly and Company.
